The World Premiere of Intersection for the Arts & Campo Santo’s The River

IFTA | WHEN: April 11 - May 04th | WHERE: A.C.T Costumer Shop, 1117 Market St | Details: Richard Montoya of Culture Clash collaborates with Intersection for the Arts resident theater company Campo Santo, and its co-founder Sean San Jose, to create The River. The play is part of Montoya’s larger series, “The Border Series”, that explores themes of identity, California and its people, and the many types of borders they encounter and cross.

Amendola VS. Blades

Blades” Scott Amendola and Wil Blades conjure various sonic deities though only a duo. Their live shows have been generating a buzz around the Bay Area.  The two got their start as a group when Scott had the vision of performing Duke Ellington’s “Far East Suite” in duo with Wil.

INTERSECTION FOR THE ARTS | WHEN: Dec 5th, 7 - 9 pm | WHERE: 925 Mission St | Details: CLEVER is a new queer think tank started by media artist Cherly Dunye that is engaged in media based activities committed to social transformation. CLEVER is a site where academic debate meets up with political activism and artistic/cultural practices, and where different forms of knowledge production and articulation form productive coalitions. Invited panelists including Dr. Annie Sprinkle (Ecosexual Sexecologist, artist and activist), Jiz Lee (performer, artist, activist), Shine Louise Houston (CrashPad, Pink and White Productions) and Alex Austin (Founder and Owner of Austin Law Group) will explore image ownership and marketplace regulation in a discussion of whether or not porn can be covered by copyright.

Terrence Brewer Quartet

IFTA & OFF THE GRID | WHEN: Nov 30th, 12 to 2 pm | WHERE: 5th and Minna | Details: In 2004, multiple-award winning Guitarist Terrence Brewer started his own record label, Strong Brew Music, and to-date has produced six albums for that record label.  Brewer’ s last three albums (QuintEssential, Groovin Wes, and Setting The Standard: Vol 1) combined to spend nearly 100 weeks on the National JazzWeek Radio charts weekly top 50.  Those same three albums made their way into the top 15 on the national JazzWeek radio charts (QuintEssential peaked at #15, Groovin’ Wes peaked at #9, and Setting The Standard: Vol 1 peaked at #12) and Brewer has lead his groups in over 2000 shows in the last 7 years.

INTERSECTION FOR THE ARTS & GAFFTA | WHEN: Oct 20, noon to 10 pm | WHERE: 5th & Mission | DETAILS: On October 20, three blocks of downtown San Francisco will become a living laboratory of urban experiments. Urban Prototyping: San Francisco will demonstrate the capability of citizens to reimagine public space through creative applications of design and technology. The festival is FREE and open to all! The festival will feature a showcase of 25 projects created by over 150 makers, as well as three stages of public performance and a series of inspiring keynotes and panel discussions around placemaking, prototyping, and the future of cities.

We will provide images, a map and hints, you decipher the clues and match up nostalgic photos of this neighborhood with present day surroundings. Locate where the original photograph was taken, hold up the image and take a new picture. Text, tweet or email us your images, the team or individual who finds and matches up the most photos wins!

INTERSECTION & OFF THE GRID | WHEN: Oct 12th, 11 am to 2 pm | WHERE: 5t & Minna | DETAILS: The Nice Guy Trio creates a sound that is both intimate and reflective of their contrasting yet complimentary musical backgrounds, and always with an emphasis on spontaneity.  In concert they navigate through a uniquely diverse collection of original compositions and songs from folk traditions all around the globe, from jazz to klezmer to Balkan dance forms, to calypso and beyond. They have performed in venues, big and small, from Jazz at Chez Hanny and Café Royale, to The Great American Music Hall, and the Yerba Buena Garden Festival.
